Pet Blessing - September 29, 3:00PM
Pet blessings have a long tradition within Christianity and recognize God’s care for all creation and the importance of pets as companions. You are invited to join us on the front lawn, Sunday, September 29, 2024 at 3:00PM, for a short service and pet blessing with treats and a photo op to follow. Pets big and small are welcome (along with their humans, of course)! This event is free and open to the public...all are welcome and invited!
Pets provide valuable companionship to people across all socioeconomic statuses. Recognizing that it’s often difficult to find assistance with caring for one’s pets, we are also collecting the following items for donation to the Coralville Community Food Pantry:
- Dog food (wet and dry varieties are welcome)
- Cat food (wet and dry varieties are welcome)
- Pet treats (all kinds are welcome)
- Cat litter (this is a most-needed item!)
- Bird seed (this is a special item for many people)
We ask that pets be kept on leash during the event (or in a carrier/cage...whichever set up is appropriate so that you can maintain control and safety of your pets). Small animals like rabbits, hamsters, lizards etc. are usually best left in their cages for protection. If you have a less social pet, consider bring a photo of them for blessing instead. We ask that all humans be responsible for their pets, including respecting others space and cleaning up after your pet. The service will not be long, but you may wish to bring a lawn chair if you'd like to sit. The event may need to be cancelled or rescheduled if it rains.
