First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
Update: Each Sunday's worship service is uploaded to Youtube at Pastor Jill's YouTube channel at 10:00 am on Sunday and can also be viewed, along with services from prior Sundays, from this website on our Sermons page.
As we continue to navigate this COVID-19 time, please note:
Worship services are aired each week on YouTube. Each Sunday morning at 10am a new worship service will appear. You can access our YouTube channel using this link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCd76kn4RbaYl86nLc2HPGnw.
Other groups and meetings are taking place on Zoom. This includes planning meetings, Bible study, and children and youth activities.
We are adding some Virtual Interest Groups. And you are invited to initiate one! The first two are happening this week.
- One is Wednesday, May 6, early evening with Vern Duba who will be leading a conversation about libraries in the 21st century.
- The second is a game time on Saturday afternoon, May 9. Join the Thomas family for Scattergories.
- And beyond that, Laura is also hosting a Virtual Concert on Monday, May 11.
The links for all of these events were in your newsletter on Wednesday.
At this point, staff continues to work at the church as needed, although they are doing as much work as possible from home. If you need anything, please call the church or call or email the pastoral staff directory.
In an effort to keep connected to each other your elders and pastors are reaching out in various ways. You are encouraged to reach out to other FCC friends as well. Please don't hesitate to let your pastors know about needs we can assist with.
The church also continues to need your support. Please pray daily for your church, the membership and leadership. And we appreciate each of you who is committed to continuing your financial support of FCC. You can do this through your own bank’s online bill pay, by requesting an ACH form from the church office to give the church permission to request the funds, by mailing a check to the church, or by using the "Donate" button on this website.
While we miss seeing one another and sharing hugs together, even COVID-19 cannot separate us. When it is safe we will transition to being together again, but in the meanwhile, we are holding you close in our hearts.
Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. (Romans 15:7)
At First Christian Church of Iowa City/Coralville, we aspire to share God’s expansive and unconditional love with all, with respect and positive regard for our human differences. Whatever your lived experience, skin color, native tongue or dialect, ethnicity or nationality, gender identity, sexual orientation, relationship or family status, age, size, physical or mental health, economic situation, addiction, ability or disability, education level, profession, faith history, and politics … there is room for you at the table. It is God’s welcome and is without limitations.
By God’s grace and following Jesus’ example, we invite you to join us in community and communion. We embrace you as a fellow child of God, equally and deeply loved and with full access to the kin-dom that we strive to inhabit. If you are among us, you are one of us.
Mission Statement: By the grace of God, First Christian Church is a diverse community of believers and seekers, united in following and sharing the way of Christ with all persons through daily practices of devotion, justice, and love.
