Arriving in Nashville

We arrived in Nashville about 4:30 p.m. while a worship service was being held in Spanish by a Disciple congregation hosted by the English-speaking Donelson Christian Church.  A group from Bloomfield, Indiana, arrived soon after we did and we set up our sleeping quarters in the sanctuary.  About 7:00 we sere served a meal of smoked pulled pork, salad, beans, and dessert by the long term volunteers.  One of the long-term volunteers, Will, is from Zearing, Iowa.  The shower trailer out back where we'lll freshen up was made by the men of Marion Christian Church in Iowa; we used it in the summer of 2009 in Cedar Rapids.  Groups from Oklahoma, Illinois, Missouri, and Ohio have been here before us in the previous month, using the 14 air mattresses we shipped him from  Air mattresses will be used here all summer by people from all over so they won't be hauled hundreds of miles and purchased dozens of times more than necessary. Members and friends of our congregation helped purchase the mattresses by making, buying, and eating the Rodgers' family apple pies.  On our way down here we passed Culver Stockton College, a Disciples related school in Canton, MO., whose faculty and students help save the town of Canton from a flood a few years ago.  We also drove past Disciples Village, a large National Benevolent Association (Disciples of Christ) home for low income eldery in Nashville.  It is amazing what we can do together when we recognize our unity in Christ.
